DANIEL MARILLIER PLAYS THE B21 IN BEIJING (CHINA)
INTERVIEW IN “MUSICORA” FAIR BY cigaletv.com
Created in 2003 this double-bass for the 21st century is a classical instruments with new functionnalies and contemporary aesthetics
The architecture, the loud and warm tone of this bass make the B21 an instrument that can compare with the best classical instruments from the 18th and 19th century.
"This double bass is incredible: the sound is even on all 4 strings and every single note has sustain and depth of tone. It is the first bass on which I can use the whole SpirocoreMedium set, which gives me that much more pleasure to play. Moreover, it can be taken apart and put together in a few minutes, and weighing just 23.5 kg, can be put on planes as luggage without any extra charge. Traveling easy, being able to perform on my own instrument is a luxury these days. The bass also has the possibility of a lot of various adjustments, which is incredible. I was about to give up traveling but this creation will keep me on the road. I can't thank Patrick Charton enough for building this wonderful instrument for me. It is simply a marvel."
It was great to work with you the last few days to get accustomed to all of the possible adjustments. The travel experience was also incredible. No special taxi required, no questions or confusion at the counter, no expenses! - everything went very smoothly. When I arrived home the bass even came out on the belt with the regular luggage. The security people in Washington DC inspected the instrument without my being there and they figured out how to open and close the case all on their own - that is a good sign.< Anyway, thank you for your masterful work. The bass is beautiful in sound, beautiful in appearance and beautiful in conception - really an instrument for the 21st century. I feel a renewed sense of excitement for the possibilities in my music making.
